Baby Growth Calculator

Check your baby's weight, length and head size against the WHO growth standards. For babies from birth to 24 months.

Fill in any one or all three. Measure length lying down, and head size around the widest part of the head.

Please note: every baby grows at their own pace. A percentile is not a score, and a baby at the 10th or the 90th percentile can be perfectly healthy. What matters most is that your baby follows their own curve over time. If your baby was born early, your doctor may use a corrected age. If a number is outside the usual range, or growth suddenly changes, please talk to your paediatrician. This tool is not medical advice.

How it works

The calculator compares your baby's measurement with the WHO Child Growth Standards, which describe how healthy, breastfed children grow in the first five years. It uses the official WHO values for each month of age (0 to 24 months), separately for boys and girls, and works out where your baby sits using the standard WHO LMS method. Ages between two months are interpolated.

Common questions

What is a percentile?

If your baby is on the 40th percentile for weight, then out of 100 babies of the same age and sex, about 40 would weigh less and 60 would weigh more. It describes where your baby sits among healthy babies. It is not a grade.

Is a low percentile a problem?

Not by itself. Some healthy babies are small and some are big. Doctors look at the trend over several visits, along with feeding, development and family size.

Which chart does this use?

The WHO Child Growth Standards, for babies from birth to 24 months. They were built from about 8,500 children in Brazil, Ghana, India, Norway, Oman and the USA, with the breastfed baby as the model (WHO study details).
